The Complete World Pilates® Guide

Introduction

Pilates equipment maintenance is essential to ensure safety, durability, and comfort for those who train.
Reformers, Cadillacs, and Chairs are used intensively every day: keeping them in top condition protects your clients, improves performance, and preserves the value of your studio.

World Pilates®, a Pilates specialist for over 20 years and a fitness specialist for over 40 years, produces Made in Italy equipment and has developed this practical guide to help you care for your machines simply and effectively.

Why maintenance is important

  • Keeps tools safe for everyday use.
  • Prevents unexpected breakdowns that slow down classes.
  • Extends the life of equipment.
  • Improves the quality of the customer experience.

Maintenance Checklist

1. Checking springs and strings

Springs are the heart of Pilates machines. Check them periodically for signs of warping, loosening, or excessive wear.
Record their usage (hours/years).

World Pilates® recommends
Even if the springs appear to be in good condition, they should be replaced every 2 years to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Also inspect the strings and bearings: they should not show signs of wear.

2. Scrolling and tracks

Dirt on the tracks can affect the smoothness of movement.
Clean regularly with a soft cloth and a little alcohol.
Absolutely avoid abrasive scouring pads or metal tools that can scratch the aluminum.
If the wheels “jump,” it’s a sign that they need cleaning or inspection.

3. Cleaning and care of upholstery

The padding (eco-leather) must be treated with care.
Clean only with water and a little neutral soap.
Avoid solvents and harsh chemicals.
Always use towels or protective covers during workouts to reduce direct wear.

Why World Pilates® uses nautical eco-leather

All World Pilates® machines are upholstered in high-quality nautical eco-leather, the same material used in the maritime industry.
This choice guarantees:

  • Hygiene → easy to clean, resistant to sweat and creams.
  • Durability → withstands thousands of uses without losing its softness.
  • Safety → certified fireproof, abrasion-resistant, and UV-resistant.
  • Sustainability → eco-friendly, vegan, and free from harmful substances.

Handles and straps are also made of padded eco-leather or easily sanitized technical fabric, combining comfort with high hygiene standards.

Recommended preventive measures

  • Perform a complete check at least every 6 months.
  • Track spring usage to know when to replace them.
  • Maintain light daily cleaning, especially after long hours of classes.
  • Use protective covers or tarps on the machines.
  • Encourage clients to wear non-slip socks: they increase stability and reduce the risk of slipping, prevent direct contact of sweat with the padding, and help keep the upholstery in good condition longer.

World Pilates® Certified Inspection

In addition to the self-check, World Pilates® offers an official technical inspection with the issuance of the 2025/2026 Maintenance Certification.
This certification guarantees that your equipment is safe, efficient, and compliant with professional quality standards.
